Goals . . .and Coffee

This page is found at http://www.awomanscomfort.com/coffee.html

Let me tell you about this Goal I am going after. But first . . . I need a Cup of Coffee!

Is it just me?

It might be anything from a Letter Home to something that will make a million dollars . . . But it is The Job and it hangs over everything else in your life.

But where is the Coffee?.

Am I getting sidetracked?

Coffee!

You know what that means. A walk into the Kitchen.

Is there a woman on the planet who can just walk into the kitchen without being able to find 101 things she would rather do in the kitchen rather than getting to "grips" with The Monster . . . um "The Project" that needs doing?

I Find Myself Saying . . .

"Soup!"

"Soup is great for lunch or dinner. Soup is always great to have around."

"Which is an opportunity to try a new recipe."

"Or maybe a Cake - just in case . . ."

"and a Telephone call to That Friend( who loves one hour conversations)."

"And all this is definitely not really a waste of time, because all that work is getting done during the phone conversation."

By which time Life has happened.

"Maybe tomorrow there will be time for the Monster . . . umm The Project."

Sure.

What Happened?

So what happened to all the dreams? Those fantasies that sparkled our childhoods. They seem like soap bubbles that went "pop" on their own.

Making Plans

Is there something that stops getting the plans made; the work from getting done? Is it a desire to fail or something else?

There are so many books that talk about "Getting Your Life on the Winning Track". But they all seem to ask for a Five Year Plan.

Good Grief!!!

Planning into Next Week seems too chancy; let alone Five Years from now. After 30 some odd years of raising kids there have been too many:

  • Surprise Visits to the Emergency Room,
  • School Projects using Unavailable Supplies for Tomorrow!
  • Calls at 3:00 AM saying, "Mommy! I think I’m starting Labor."
  • And calls saying "The Baby is sick. What do I do?!"

A Different Way of Success

Perhaps there is a Different Way of looking at, and defining, Success.

Think of all the projects you’ve done. How did they happen?

Probably they started out as a List - that became a new list, because the old one got lost or forgotten – and changed continually.

The Far Horizon

Perhaps for some people life is more like a range of rolling hills then just one mountain. From the top of a mountain the climber can look down on the way they came up. From the top of a hill – well, there are lots more hills out there.

Maybe what's important are the events, sometimes up - sometimes down. Maybe the Success is the Journey. Not how high, but how far, we are on the way.

Finding The Magic

The Magic of soap bubbles is their suddenness. How they come up so fast, how many of them there are. The colors. The sound when they pop. Would one be as satisfying? Or as fun!
